New Leadership For the Frugal Fashionista Clothing Swap!

Hi there -

It's been some time since I've been here and in that time I have decided, for personal reasons, to step down as the organizer of the Frugal Fashionista Clothing Swap. Dianna-Nicole Li is now the official meetup organizer for the group and I am remaining on as one of her assistants. Please give her a warm welcome while she takes on this new endeavor. Thank you for your patience and your support!

Frugal Fashionista 'Summer In The City' Clothing Swap Event Was A Hit!

Those of you who participated in the 'Summer In The City' Clothing Swap on Sunday know that there is no other group quite like ours! Our event was absolutely swaptastic! Thank you all for sharing a green, glam & charitable afternoon with us! From the swappers themselves to each and every glam team member who volunteered their time, talent and services to our lovely fashionistas, I personally thank you for turning this clothing swap into something extra special!

Not only were our members spoiled rotten with hair up-do's, facials, make-overs and massages ~ but they also walked away with awesome door prizes, a belly full of fantastic BBQ pork sandwiches and of course as much free clothing, shoes and accessories they cared to take home with them!

The Swap Til Ya Drop Frenzy was Super Glammed up by Our AWESOME KICK AZZ GLAM TEAM~ with Masseuse Team Hands From Heaven (Frugal Fashionista Stacey Stith), Master Stylist "Mr. Beau" who provided hair do-ups and styles for most of our fashionistas and Cosmo Girl Nikki Marsh on makeovers, facials and glam tips! Nikki gave a few classes to some of our interested fashionistas on the proper use and application of different types of make-up and skin tone types. Special thanks to DJ Phanatic for spinning records & rockin' the swap for us, Aleasia's Passion Photography for providing us with great photos & 3 LIL' PIGS BBQ Service for capturing the essence of the "Summer In The City" Themed Charity Swap! You all did a bang-up job!

Even after all of the swapping was finished, we still wound up with 23 large bags of clothing, shoes & accessories to donate to the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter! 23 BAGS Filled to rim and nearly bursting! Thank you all for bringing in so many items and cleaning out your closets so thoroughly! lol We also collected a few boxes of: some puzzles, books, knick knacks, small appliances, toys, linens, decor and other household goods! This is an important part of the Frugal Fashionista Swap as we donate to abused women's shelters. The women from the shelters are literally starting over after leaving their entire lives behind and really need just about everything for their new apartments and their children. As long as one person can carry the item, it's the right size;)

During this swap we started collecting dry boxed cake mixes for the FREECAKES4KIDS Foundation too! I put the information out for this pretty late so I didn't expect that many people to donate! Thank you!!! To learn more about the program ~ visit the website at http://www.freecakesforkids.com/ One of our very own Frugal Fashionista's, Maddie, runs a chapter right here in Virginia! We will be collecting dry boxed caked mixes from now on at each clothing swap to support this great program.

For those who missed it or those that came late and missed the good stuff~ all I can say is try to make the next one or get there on time because it really was something GREAT! For those who RSVP'd but did not show, please know that we still had to pay for your plate... just as we said would happen if you didn't let us know you were not coming. It's important to update your RSVP's accordingly, not just as a courtesy for all of the hard work that gos into hosting these events, but also to avoid a financial burden...

I had a wonderful time hosting it and once again, made some beautiful new friends! Thank you sista fashionistas for being Green, Glam & Charitable! You are the most wonderful group of people and I am really proud to know you!

Oh The Treasures You Can Find At A Clothing Swap! Lady Scores Genuine Tiffany Ring!

When You Think Of A "Clothing Swap" Do You Think Of Gaining An Actual Treasure?

Perhaps You Should!

On 18 April 09, The Frugal Fashionista Clothing Swap held an event benefiting local domestic violence shelters at the Franconia Governmental Center. While everyone who attended benefited by gaining entirely free fashionable clothing, shoes and accessories, one participant, Nadya, benefited more than all of the others! How, you ask? While rummaging through the donated and cast off jewelry that the participants brought, she discovered this amazing treasure! This Tiffany ring is an antique setting set in platinum with 18k yellow gold! The brilliant sapphire is nearly two carats and the diamonds surrounding the center stone weigh approximately a half a carat as well! Who would have thought that such an amazing find could be picked up at a CLOTHING SWAP?

Congratulations Nadya... Our lucky Frugal Fashionista Clothing Swap Treasure Hunter! Wear your ring with pride and be sure to tell everyone where you got it!

For future Frugal Fashionista Clothing Swaps, see our website at http://www.frugalfashionistaclothingswap.org/

Who knows what treasures you'll find!

The Frugal Fashionista ~ An Event Planner From The Get Go...OMP Portfolio Link

Photobucket

Event planning is turning out to be my niche~ I've always BEEN an event planner in some capacity though I've never held the label / title before... and I'm pretty sure I'm loving it! Even when I was a small child, I always had my hands into something ~ organizing this or that, starting groups and clubs and leading my friends around. I always seemed to have followers. It wasn't ALWAYS a good thing;) I DID grow up in the Bronx and led a pretty rough lifestyle before I married Uncle Sam's Army. Mostly though, I did good things and led my friends in the right direction;)

When I did belong to the Army, I was a planner there as well; A planner and a strong leader. I guess it's there where I honed my skills and learned how to make things happen for myself and everyone around me. I spent my entire adult life living this way that I never really thought much about it until I sat down earlier and wrote out my experiences. I realized that I have more event planning experience than most legit by trade event planners! LOL Funny how that happens and odd how sometimes we don't even realize our own talents and value until we're forced to really look into the mirror and write them down.

Anyway~ I've been working with Jamie Forhan of Peter P. Photography as an event planner over the past few months. We've been working on charity fashion shows and events in the Metro D.C. area & I've been helping him with some promo t-shirt designs as well. I'm the assistant organizer of the Fairfax Modeling & Photography Group which basically raises funds for Jamie's Munchkin Fund Charity.

My event planning & digital artist portfolio is being worked on at OMP / One Model Place and can be viewed at the following link. If you are a model or photographer, love fashion and glamour, are a true fashionista or are simply into charity work, our events may be of great interest to you!

Please Help Us Raise Funds For the Frugal Fashionista 'Summer In The City' Clothing Swap Event!

If we raise $1000 before the event, we can not only keep our charity afloat, but also cut a nice fat check for the Bethany House of Northern Virginia which maintains four shelters for women and children who suffer from domestic violence and sexual abuse!

Thanks so much!

Swap - DON'T SHOP! The Frugal Fashionista Clothing Swap Group Can Show You How To Look Fab & Help A Great Charity!

I love to shop and girl do I mean love it!!!I know there are those reading that are saying "Who doesn't love to shop?" My question is this ~ With today's economy being what it is and the GUILT we feel about buying all of those wonderful new clothes, shoes, handbags and what have you... Rather than shop ~ Why Not SWAP?

Now I am a total shoe fanatic and at one point had over 250 pair of the wonderful little inventions in my closet. (Well, not exactly all IN my closet;) ~ Some under the beds, others in boxes labeled by color or type, etc. and some actually on display in my home! Yes, they had actual shelves so that I could look at them as I passed by throughout the day. Some called this a sickness ~ an addiction even, and perhaps they were right. I eventually began to downsize my growing collection and am now down to just over 50 pair.

How? Well aside from giving many away to my friends and sister I began throwing Clothing Swaps! I realized there were many other things in my wardrobe that were lacking and with my over abundance of shoes, I was able to swap for the great things that I actually needed!

Question: Who says we have to pull out our purse in order to gain that FAB Little Black Dress or that Super Duper Power Suit for the office?

Answer: Nobody! We don't have to anymore!

Clothing Swaps have become all the rage and not just across America, but all over the world! Since the economy has taken a turn for the worse, most fashionista's just don't have the resources we once did to go out on a weekend, get our pedicures and manicures, have our hair done, have a nice lunch with our gal pals and then go out and shop til we drop! BUT ~ with groups like the Frugal Fashionista Clothing Swap you can have all that and more with our SWAP til you drop clothing swap events!

One stop shopping? No! ONE STOP SWAPPING? YES!

Not only do our events give you access to tons of great clothing, shoes and accessories for the best price in town (ABSOLUTELY FREE!) but they also provide spa treats! Each event hold something new and exciting but you can expect representatives from the health, beauty and wellness fields to be there to 'GlAM UP' each one!

Everyone With A Heartbeat!

We have over 100 members in just 6 short weeks and cater to everyone with a heartbeat! What does that mean? You will meet folks from all walks of life here and build super friendships! We're a very friendly and open minded group who allow no race, color, age, gender, sexual preference, religious belief or political preference to prevent us from swapping clothes! So, with THAT being said, leave your prejudices behind and join us with your clothing, shoes & accessories for a good ole' swapping time!

Charity

Did I mention the good will of this program? I don't mean "Goodwill" as in the Goodwill charity. I mean it as in the good will of philanthropy. We are a charitable group and all of the left over clothing from the swaps are donated to programs that support Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Victims. One of the current programs we support is the Bethany House of Northern Virginia. They run four shelters that house women and children who fall into these categories throughout the Northern Virginia area.

Frugal Fashionista Clothing Swap ~ Like No Others!

Why? Because we don't stop at clothing! Keeping both our guests AND our charity recipients in mind, we have expanded our "swappable items list" to include anything that one person can carry by themselves! When the folks leave the DV shelters, they are going back into the world to start anew. The Bethany House provides them with the first months rent and the security deposit but they have to get everything to refurnish their new place! We decided that including small house hold goods, decor and appliances was something that would benefit everyone! See the list at our main site on meetup.com

The Frugal Fashionista 'Summer In The City' Clothing Swap Event

Our next big event is on Sunday 28 Dec 09 from 2 -5 PM at the Franconia Governmental Center in Alexandria, VA. If you would like to attend, learn more or join our group to be kept abreast of future swaps, you can find us at:

https://www.meetup.com/frugal-fashionista-clothing-swap-alexandria

If you have suggestions as to where YOU think we should donate to, please send us a message!

Please Note:

Many have suggested Goodwill: We do not donate to or support them in any way shape or form. Since we support all walks of life, I chose NOT to support the Goodwill as they do not. They have several lawsuits against them for firing folks from the alternate lifestyle with no other means for termination.
